Based on a short story by Sara Maitland, this is a really unusual film set in the striking landscapes of the Arctic. Told like a fable, in that you don’t really know when or where it takes place, it’s the story of two women (Michelle Yeoh and Michelle Krusiec), who have escaped persecution from ethnic cleansing and live alone hiding out on the icy tundra. One day they come across a man (Sean Bean) dying on the ice…
Don’t let that brief synopsis put you off!!!
It’s a great story with one hell of an unexpected ending. I’m also a huge Michelle Yeoh fan, and I’ve never seen her in a film like this or give such a terrific performance – and it’s the best thing Sean Bean has been in for ages (probably since The Lord of The Rings!).
Another distinctive film from the Asif Kapadia (Director)/Bertrand Faivre (Producer)/Tim Miller (Writer)/Roman Osin (DoP)/Dario Marianelli (Composer)/Ewa Lind (Editor) team. If you never saw The Warrior, their first collaboration, check that one out as well.
Thanks for your comments – I did a piece myself – I called it changing times but it is really about Far North.
Check it out. Thanks
